GAME CANCELATION FAQ

GAME CANCELATION FAQ
Our goal is to have kids play ball! We are entirely run by volunteers who share a passion for all kids to have the opportunity to play baseball and softball, regardless of their skill level, or financial status. We try our best to exhaust every possibility and explore every alternative before canceling games or practices.

Why are other baseball and softball leagues still having games while ours are canceled?
While we can’t speak to the weather and amount of standing water at other fields, our fields are owned and operated by Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District who maintain authority over their availability. Valley-Wide retains the right to keep fields open or have them closed at their sole discretion.

The fields I saw looked fine. Why are they closed?
When there is rain Valley Wide sends out their workers to  assess the fields that day.  Depending on how dry fields are Valley Wide will open none, some, or all fields.  Things for softball and baseball  Valley-Wide looks at is safety for players and field condition. If grass is mushy sometimes this will close fields depending on how wet they are.  If the dirt has standing water on it then the field will be closed.  If the dirt is mushy when stepped on (leaving footprints) or slippery when stepped on the field will be closed.  Valley Wide needs to be able to drag the fields with their heavy equipment so if the grass or dirt is too soft to use the heavy equipment they will not open the field.

** Weekend inspections by valley wide will not happen. If on Friday morning fields are too soft to drag, Valley-Wide typically may not open fields over the weekend.

Do canceled games get made up?
We try our best to reschedule canceled games, but also want to keep our current schedule and end of season playoffs intact while not extending our season. Our goal is for every team to play a minimum of ten and ideally twelve games per season. Games will be rescheduled with teams who have missed the most games having priority for every division.

Will we make up games with Double Headers?
We typically add make up games during off days and try our best to avoid double headers, if possible.

SHETLAND JR

4/5 YR

The Shetland Jr. Division does not participate in PONY All Stars for the spring season. All ages are calculated based on Pony Baseball League Age as of April 30 of the Spring Season.

This is a beginner's division for those Shetland league aged 4-6 year old. We recommend players with experience to assess in the Shetland Sr. Division. This division will use the mechanical pitching arm and/or a tee for hitting, no outs are recorded and all players hit each inning. All who sign up will be placed on a team without an assessment.

SHETLAND SR
(SS6)

6 YR

The Shetland Sr. Division will participate in PONY All Stars for the spring season. All ages are calculated based on the Pony Baseball Age Chart. Shetland Super 6 (6U) Division. This is an advanced division for those Shetland league age 6 years old (and advanced 5 years old) who have outgrown the tee and coach pitch. This division will use the mechanical pitching arm only for the duration of the season. All who sign up must assess at the beginning of the Season.

If the player is not proficient for this division, they will be moved to the Shetland Jr. Division based on Assessment and draft selections. This division is Assessment and Draft based. No Player or Coach requests will be accepted.

PINTO

8 & Under

PONY Baseball Pinto 8 and Under Division division will utilize a Wheeled Pitching Machine for all games. All ages are calculated based on the PONY Baseball age chart.

MUSTANG

10 & Under

Beginning with MUSTANG 10U™ LEAGUE Baseball, the players are playing real baseball in accordance with The Rules of Major League Baseball as well as specific PONY rules that are in place to supersede the MLB rules where appropriate such as pitching, substitution, re-entry, etc.

BRONCO

12 & Under

BRONCO 12U™ LEAGUE is a continuation of the philosophy to fit the diamond to the physical potential of the players. The bases and pitching distances are scaled up slightly from MUSTANG 10U™ LEAGUE. The transition diamond used in BRONCO 12U™ LEAGUE, permits infielders and outfielders to select their defensive positions in relation to the anticipated speed of the ball when they field it.

PONY

14 & Under

PONY 14U™ LEAGUE is the transition league that takes players from the "kid" leagues to "young adult" status. It permits a player to play on a diamond tailored to his size and capability rather than being moved to one with twice the playing area in a single year. PONY 14U™ LEAGUE is specifically designed for the player in those very formative early-teen years.

COLT/Palomino

19 & Under COLT-PALAMINO 19u, League-Ages 15-19 is complete high school level baseball with FV teams playing in an interleague  with Temecula & Murrieta teams at MLB dimensions (90' bases and 60.5" mound).
